Recent Trends
For the last five years I have this app which send information on disaster events. After a year I began to notice an increasing trend in regards to weather events of a disastrous nature. Extreme weather events are occurrences that are severe in nature or occur out of season. An example of this is prolonged drought or snow or frost during the growing season. Since I began my work with the City of Lethbridge, I was able to explore this subject more in depth and what I found was astonishing! Extreme weather has begun to affect food production.
Canadian Context
Extreme weather events across the planet are increasing in frequency and intensity. The problem is that it has reached a tipping point. Since 2012, globally, we have been producing barely enough. Now, extreme weather is beginning to affect food production. This is the current context for the analysis section.
