Food security is generally known as your access to a local, nutritious source of food. Most of us are unaware that we are food insecure and events are occurring which threatens our food security. The result of this is the ever increasing prices for food and what is dangerous is that this is expected.
The Secure Your Food Program (SYF) is meant to reduce food insecurity by encouraging individuals and families to access the means and resources to increase their access to a local, nutritious source of food. SYF will continue to work towards adoption and utilization by the City of Lethbridge. This program is not only about what the city may do but also what you can do to secure your food for yourself and your family.

Reflections
We give little thought to the systems and processes which bring food to our plate every day. There is stress at every level within this food chain system, which include aging infrastructure, inefficient distribution systems, and extreme weather. Prominent among these stressors is extreme weather and how this is beginning to affect food production. The rationale is a good place to start which will go into a little more detail on why prices may not only become prohibitively expensive but unavailable. Rationale.
Looking Ahead
At present, the rationale and general designs of the greenhouse is completed. We are in the midst of organizing our efforts to build these greenhouses. We hope to have them built in time for the fall and begin testing. What is represented on this website is the general details of what we are working on. As time progresses, this site will update and chronicle our progression. I appreciate feedback and constructive criticisms, as past advice has made the program what it is today and I invite you to help make this program more strong. Please follow our updates in our blog and social media sites.
